Purpose and By-Laws for National Elementary Honor Society

NEHS is a national honor society dedicated to recognizing and encouraging excellence in scholarship, leadership and philanthropy. The mission is to build a community of engaged leaders, and help members realize their highest potential through the advancement of academics, leadership and networking. To accomplish this mission, Chapter shall:

·        promote scholarship and encourage intellectual development,

·        confer distinction for high achievement,

·        promote leadership development,

·        stimulate student and faculty dialogue,

·        enrich the intellectual environment of higher education institutions,

·        encourage high standards of practice and ethical behavior,

·        promote attitudes of professional responsibility for the public good,

·        advocate for inclusiveness within the society and philanthropy towards the community,

·        build a framework for success for its members, and

·        showcase member talents.


Qualifications For Members:

Students must maintain quarterly grades of 2 A’s and 2 B’s, model excellent behavior, and attend school regularly.

Students must model the 4 NEHS Pillars:

1.     Scholarship: a minimum of 2 A’s and 2 B’s

2.     Leadership

3.     Service

4.     Character


Selection Process:

1.     Scholarship: final average of grades from 4th grade shall be reviewed. A minimum of 2 A’s and 2B’s is required to be considered as a candidate.

2.     Students who meet the grade requirements are notified for their consideration.

3.     Interested students submit a written response explaining how they demonstrate the pillars of: Leadership, Service, and Responsibility.

4.     Faculty and staff will provide input around maintaining Scholarship in 5th grade, Responsibility, Leadership, and Service for those students who submitted a written response.

5.     The NEHS faculty council will take into consideration 1st 9 weeks grades of 5th grade, student written responses, and staff input surveys when determining eligibility for induction.

6.     Students are notified of either acceptance or regret. 

 Lost Lake Elementary Chapter Goals:

·        Students participate in leadership roles in our school, and complete a school enrichment project.

·        Students hold office positions and learn how to manage meetings, projects, and finances. Students will practice communication skills among members to accomplish goals.

·        Students will complete service projects.
